(Understanding The Grass Roots Community Activist Movement)

Before Occupy Wall Street Movement, Black Lives Matter Movement, was the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement. I created “GRCAM” the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement on November 10th 1991 on a site called Gopher. My focus then was on inner city youth and their families who I believe are entitled to respect, basic resources, and safety in their own community. I wanted to create a space to empower black students on campus to share our experience, exchange ideas, and question our beliefs that we take for granted, grapple with ethical problems we never considered before attending college. Today I have broaden my perspective to include African Immigrants, Afro Brazilians, Afro Caribbean, and Nonblack sympathizers interested in working with me to solve black issues head on.

GRCAM is currently a virtual Christian socialist organization. Christian socialism is a form of socialism based on the teachings of Jesus. We believe capitalism is idolatrous and rooted in greed, which some Christian denominations consider a mortal sin. The cause of social inequality is due to capitalism. We will focus on what we stand for: love, compassion, social justice, and liberation theology. Jesus commanded us to be a witness to others not just for us to read his word, but to activate social change in the world according to Luke 4:18-19.
GRCAM is committed to the healing ministry of Jesus by showing compassion to inner city youth and their families which will promote dignity to the people and community we will serve.

GRCAM will offer a broad range of programs designed to empower and meet the growing need of the African American community, the African Immigrant community, the Afro Brazilian community, and the Afro Caribbean community. I welcome my Non-black sympathizers as well as all Christian denominations, moderate Muslims, and secular people to join this new movement in Urban America. My plan/vision has been ignored for far too long. As part of my commitment to turning my plan into reality bring about quality programs and services to the inner cities starting in Chicago. Our objective is to work to reverse the trend of our declining urban communities by strengthening single black families.

For years we have accepted “quick fixes” that have given us false positives that our children are learning. These quick fix reforms temporarily improved test scores, persuade voters to vote for the same political party candidates, certain community organizations monetary bonus, to get those government grants. However, at the end of the day, we see the same results: high drop-out rates, violence in school and students graduating high school that are not prepared for community college or to enter the workforce.

According to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition the definition of a “quick fix” is: a hastily contrived remedy that alleviates a problem only for the time being. In other words, a quick fix is the ability to maintain balance of a certain process. Common Core State Standards has the potential to return the school system to “sustainability” as it shifts the focus for student achievement back to the classroom where teachers, students, parents and school administrators work collaborative to achieve academic goals.
Conversely, less focus is placed on the business model that hangs success on how well central office can implement reforms based on a scripted curriculum and standardized assessments rooted in the flawed ideology that all students learn the same way, at the same time in all classrooms across the country. As voters and taxpayers, we must remind our elected officials that we will hold them accountable by making our dissatisfaction in the voter booth. It is an election year and change is on the horizon for those that sincerely want it.

HISTORY

Emmanuel Barbee is the founder and president of the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement. It’s his gift to Urban America but unfortunately,
African Americans in Chicago has rejected Emmanuel ideas to solve urban violence in Chicago for the past 25 years since November 10, 1991. As a result Emmanuel has decided to narrow his focus to only 10 cities within 10 states. He is waiting on God to send him 30 brave and smart individuals who will read his story, agree with his plan, and join his management team then he will turn his virtual organization GRCAM into a real Christian business “the Grass Roots Community Activist Institute”

Emmanuel Barbee graduated from Northeastern Illinois University, where he majored in Sociology/minored in Social Work. Earned an advance certificate from the Renal Technology program at Malcolm X College. He is a professional blogger, blogtalkradio host, an upcoming social entrepreneur and a new urban author of “The Solution For Black America: Reclaiming, Rebuilding, And Restoring The Urban Ghettos In America” second edition available on Amazon.com This book is an auto-biography about his experience growing up in the inner city of Chicago.

He wrote his book for three reasons: one reason is to raise awareness about the genocide which is taken place within our inner cities in America. Another reason why he wrote his book is to promote his virtual Christian organization the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement. GRCAM will become a nonprofit and also a for profit service based business. It will have three main components: a social service component, a spiritual component, and a political component. Our focus is on providing quality goods and services to the low income African American community and working directly with single black mothers, single black fathers, and low income two parent families within the communities and cities we will serve.

Finally, he wrote his book in order to generate capital/seed money so that he can hire thirty qualified individuals to assist him in the daily operation of his business. He wants to make Chicago a model first before he expand his organization to 10 other cities within 10 states. His vision goes beyond Urban America Emmanuel plan on having African Immigrants in America to assist him in setting up chapters in 10 countries in Africa. They will go through the proper channels with their government to start his (NGO) Non-government organization/ private non-profit and for profit service based business.

They will offer private employment to our clients and members based on our budget and our sponsorship. We will provide infrastructure for clean running water, agricultural technology to feed the people, and most of all help improve the African economy as well as educate the people about the problems with Capitalism and show them an alternative GRCAM. They will also expand to Brazil and the Caribbean Islands.

Our community will be built on values of faith, community service, stewardship and growth with friendship at the center of everything we do. GRCAM is about making our urban community better, healthier, and stronger. GRCAM is also about building a strong unified global community and providing basic resources to families that want to utilize our programs and services. GRCAM is open to all ordinary law abiding citizens, all racial groups, and undiscovered artist.

GRCAM is private in order for me to weed out harden criminals, active gang members, urban terrorist and small minded individuals who careless about inner city youth and their families. GRCAM is membership base once we have a place of business in Chicago everyone who wants to join must attend our mandatory orientation and sign our consent form and be place in our database to make sure everyone is doing there part.

Emmanuel pledge to his members is that none of his members would ever have to suffer such humiliation and rejection just for trying to do something positive in the black community. This is his contribution back to his community, society, and throughout the African Diaspora. Our motto: No GOD, No peace. Know GOD, Know peace.

Emmanuel hope that his revised book would get into the hands of Angel Investors, Business Partners, Christian Entrepreneurs, and Social Entrepreneurs who will work with him in starting his For Profit business in Chicago. As well as get into the hands of Donors, Philanthropist, and Sponsors who will work with him in starting his Nonprofit organization in Chicago.

Emmanuel is still searching for a legitimate film director and producer to work with him in turning his revised book into a motion picture. As soon as he have his film crew in place he will post that information on his social sites. If you have purchased his revised book and agree with his plan or if you are an active group member he encourage You to participate in there open audition for his upcoming urban Christian film based on his book when the time comes. If you are selected by his panel then Emmanuel will discuss compensation with you sorry only U.S. citizens at this time.

Emmanuel is still seeking 30 individuals within the United States who have read his story, agree with his plan/vision to improve our inner cities in America, and who meet the qualifications he is looking for those persons to make themselves known to him. He provide all of his contact information in his revised book. They will do background check and if selected he will discuss compensation and incentives with them behind closed doors. No man nor woman on earth will change the vision Emanuel creator has given him to do. If GRCAM does not come about in Emmanuel Barbee’s life time at least future generations would know he tried based on his revised book and his work online.

The Facts

+ For 25 years Emmanuel have been doing his best to find 30 qualified people in his city and online to join his management team yet still to this day he have no one on his management team.

Established black organizations has overlooked his plan to improve our inner cities in Chicago, from the Chicago Southside NAACP to the Chicago Westside NAACP, the Chicago Urban League, Rainbow PUSH, and the Ghana National Council of Chicago.

No black churches in Chicago is interested in working with him they just tell him to keep up the good work but won’t allow him to pass out his book fliers after church services but will allow career politicians to come and speak to the church Lord have mercy on Black People in Chicago.
Yet none of these black organizations have a plan to solve the current problems within the African American community.

+ Since 2001 over 4000 people has been killed in Chicago alone and as a result Chicago is currently the murder capital in America. We see that all of the protesting and chanting is not working to bring about social change. We see that nothing is working to end senseless violence in Chicago what’s wrong with this picture? If only Emmanuel could reach positive demonstrators to work with him in getting this organization started in Chicago then America and the world would see real change come about in our inner cities in America.

+ His goal for writing and publishing his revised book is for Emmanuel to connect with other like minded African Americans, African Immigrants, Afro Brazilians, Afro Caribbean Islanders, and Nonblack sympathizers across the United States who are interested in working with him in solving black issues and turning his virtual Christian organization “GRCAM” The Grass Roots Community Activist Movement into a real business.

+ Emmanuel is using the only tools available to him to get his message out to the public his Youtube videos, his Social Groups, his Blog Postings, his Blogtalkradio show, his Free Webinars on Facebook, Google Plus and Skype. The only thing which is preventing Emmanuel from turning his virtual Christian organization into a real business is the lack of manpower and the capital this is why he keep re-emphasizing his revised book. GRCAM will be committed to the healing ministry of Jesus by showing compassion to inner city youth and their families which will promote dignity to the people and community they will serve.

Our Mission

To end urban violence, poverty, structural inequality, institutionalized racism, and police brutality within the communities and cities we will serve if given a chance. To reverse the trend of declining urban communities by strengthening single black families. Our programs and services are designed to:

• Provide supports for students struggling with reading, writing, and math
• Promote effective parenting and community involvement
• Advocate for adequate community resources
• Strengthen local black businesses within the community

Our Parent Support Services will be designed to provide guidance and support for new families in who lack a support system for their children needs. From workshops and interventions to strengthen the role of parents in their child’s education. We will also represent parents as non-legal advocates in securing accommodations as stipulated in their 504 Plan.

Our Workforce Empowerment Training Program will be designed to empower individuals through comprehensive training to increase the marketable skills of adults that are underemployed, unemployed or seeking to upgrade their skills in order to earn a living. We will offer training programs in the Real Estate, Cosmetology and Construction.

Our Youth Empowerment Programs will focus on academic programs and provide supports that strengthen our students in preparedness from grades PreK-12, and promote post-secondary education. Our healthy youth initiatives will promote choices for healthy lifestyle. We will provide student leadership to build their self-esteem, self-confidence and cultural awareness.

We will set forth these “Village Values” as our shared vision and goals that are reflective of our platform. These attributes, will help guide our work and are the means by which we articulate what is, and has been, intrinsically important to this organization.

Sharing Knowledge
We share, create, stimulate and promote knowledge in the area of education as it relates to parental involvement.

Education
We believe that educational resources should be accessible freely to all students, regardless of their race, sex, or geographical location. We believe that a child’s social class status should not be the gauge by which their learning capacity is measured.

Consensus
We strongly believe “there is wisdom and safety in the counsel of many” and therefore are committed to promoting a collaborative working environment that embraces honesty and respect for other points of view.

Transparency
We believe that everyone benefits from a solid education system. Therefore, we support the transparent sharing of information, and inspire confidentiality by pursuing a comprehensive information policy.

Accessibility
We will strive to make our programs and services accessible to parents and their children by implementing education resources for children.

Our Vision

A good vision will paint a vivid mental picture of the future state of an organization. GRCAM vision guides our decision-making process. GRCAM has a strong and well-defined organizational mission.
We are committed to helping people improve their conditions so they can:
Be productive and provide for their families.
Help to re-build our inner cities in America.
We know that this is done one person at a time. But the more people who attain these goals, the greater likelihood that the inner cities of Chicago will change and become a stronger and more productive.

GRCAM is based on five components:

* Our Social service component – We will provide goods and services to the low income African American community by working directly with single black mothers, single black fathers, and low income two parent families within the communities and cities we will serve. We will offer private employment within the organization to our clients and members based on our budget and sponsorship. In time we will offer a second chance program for ex offenders, former gang members, and the homeless. Our goal is to first stabilize the community through our outreach programs and services and create legitimate jobs so that our young people don’t become career criminals. As a result we will have safer streets where our clients can raise their families.

* Our spiritual component – (Optional for secular people) GRCAM is a Christian socialist organization. A Christian socialist is a form of socialism based on the teachings of Jesus. Many Christian socialists believe that capitalism is idolatrous and rooted in greed, social inequality, and institutionalized racism which most Christian denominations consider a mortal sin. We will focus on what we stand for: love, compassion, social justice, and liberation theology. Jesus commanded us to be a witness to others not just for us to read his word, but to activate social change in the world according to Luke4:18-19.

* Our political component – We will create our own independent political party at the local level. We will educate the community and push for community rights by creating our own laws known as community rights and get those laws on the books which will be compatible with the dominant culture. Our laws would protect our local residents and give the community a voice and those affected by bias in the current system. We will hold both Rogue Cops and Urban Terrorist accountable for their actions in a constructive manner. We will form cooperative alliance beyond the black community so that this organization can be diverse for all people of Chicago and surrounding suburbs of Chicago.

* Our Entertainment component – We will host the best African American DJs, African Immigrant DJs, Afro Brazilian DJs and Afro Caribbean DJs. We will display the best of black culture has to offer: from concerts, workshops/seminars, and plenty of family friendly activities. We will host the best parties in Chicago, with various music genres such as Reggae, Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Hip Hop/Holy Hip Hop, Spoken word and more. We will create the best films and stage plays in Chicago, and we will promote unknown artist who become members of this organization. It’s my hope that the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement could become the Hub in the Midwest for emerging artists and upcoming entrepreneurs.

* Our Entrepreneurship component – we will provide help accelerate black business ownership within the black community which will help strengthen the black family which would make an impact in the economy.

The Grass Roots Community Activist Movement will be committed to the belief that high performing schools are at the heart of every stable and thriving community. Local school performance impacts house values, local commerce, community safety and local government resources positively when they produce high school graduates prepared for post-secondary education or the workforce, but become an economic burden to the community and local government when they do not.

In contrast, schools are faced with numerous out-of-school factors that adversely impact student achievement and thus the solutions for improving school services cannot be achieved only within the confines of the school campus. It takes an effort from parents, teachers, community leaders, clergy, business and elected officials working as partners and committed to fulfilling their role in rebuilding our schools and our community. That is why GRCAM will offer parents/guardians of students PreK-12 training and support that empowers them to take control of the education outcomes for their children.

We will help to support parents and their children gain a greater appreciation for Reading, Music, Math and Science. We will work to build partnerships with other nonprofits who share the same value and vision. Our Youth Empowerment program will be for at risk youths. We will conduct mentor training for young adults seeking to become youth mentors and offer workshops/seminars for youth. In addition, we will provide tutoring services for local elementary students and high school students under our nonprofit sector.

Our strategies for building effective schools and community is parental support where we embrace the belief that all decisions must be made in the best interest of children. Additionally, we are committed to promoting the idea that when students feel supported and nurtured in school, their home and their community, life skills and academic performance will improve. We are committed to the belief that the greatest leaders are those dedicated to serve others. While our target population is black parents of school-aged children in low income neighborhoods, we welcome all parents and students regardless of social class, race, religion, sex, or disability.

In addition to empowering parents, our programs and services will focus on closing the achievement gap of minorities in the area of reading, writing, math, social studies and science by providing out-of-school services. We will serve parents who reside in Austin, Garfield Park, and North Lawndale on the Westside of Chicago and eventually on the Southside of Chicago.

GRCAM will offer a broad range of programs designed to empower and meet the growing need of the African American community, the African Immigrant community, the Afro Brazilian community, and the Afro Caribbean community. Emmanuel welcomes Non-black sympathizers as well as all Christian denominations, moderate Muslims, and secular people to join his new movement in Urban America.

The Grass Roots Community Activist Movement main emphasis is to teach our members about commerce, self-reliance, health, unity and spirituality throughout the African diaspora. We will offer quality programs and services to the community we will serve. GRCAM was created to connect with other like minded people within the United States and around the world for us to Empower, Encourage, Inspire, and Motivate one another. We will each our clients and members strategical responses over emotional reaction. We will embrace creative thoughts and ideas from members. To improve our economic situation we will begin with strengthening the black family and improving the black community. We will teach our members about Co-ops.

What We Value

These are the enduring organizational values embraced by GRCAM as the foundation for all planning and decision making:

• People – Having people as the co-creator with the living God, GRCAM will help influence people to become what God intended for them to be. As the “crownjewel” of God’s creation, people are the most important element of God. We expect people to treat others with respect and as they want to be treated.

• Christian Faith – As followers of Jesus, GRCAM will strives to uphold the tenants of faith as defined in our statement of faith and to encourage all members to live Godly lives.

• Integrity – Modeling personal beliefs by living in a way consistent with Biblical principles.

• Honesty – Being true to your word, doing what you say you will do.

• Help Others Improve Their Lives – Helping others improve their lives is our goal.

Our Statement OF Faith

• As a Christian organization, it is important to know what we believe. This will help guide future decisions, who we hire and how we go about doing work. It also ensures that we stay on the path God has intended for us to walk in a way that is in line with our calling. We want to walk in a way that is worthy to our calling.

• The Bible. The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, God’s infallible written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that God inspired the complete text of the Bible extending to the very words the writers chose and was written without error in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life on which it speaks (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Psalms 119:105).

• God. There is one true God (2 Samuel 7:22), eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (1 John 5:7-8) – each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality (Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14).

• Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. He became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Hence, He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever (Isaiah 9:6, Colossians 1:15-20). Jesus lived a sinless life (Hebrews 4:15) and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone (John 10:17-18; John 3:16-17). Jesus rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died (Mark 16:6). Jesus ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own (Romans 8:34).

• The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men (John 16:14). He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth and seals them until the day of redemption (John 16:8). His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believer’s life by faith. Every believer is called to live in the power of the indwelling Spirit so that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God. The Holy Spirit’s supernatural gifts are available and operative today for all Christians (Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-25, Romans 12).

• Man. Man was originally created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). He sinned by disobeying God; thus, he was alienated from his Creator (Isaiah 59:2). That historic fall brought all mankind under divine condemnation (Romans 3:23; 6:23a). Man’s nature is corrupted, and he is thus totally unable to please God (Romans 3:10). Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit (Romans 3:23b).

• Salvation. We teach that Christ alone provides salvation (Acts 4:12, John 14:6). This salvation is a free gift provided by God’s grace (Ephesians 2:8-9). We teach that one can be certain of eternal life (John 5:24). We teach that we partake of this free gift of grace by faith alone (Romans 3:28, John 3:16).

• Changed Life. We believe that becoming a Christian leads to a changed life (2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20). We call this change sanctification, which is a lifelong process of growth in selfless love, humility, service, stewardship, and holiness under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Change and growth are not optional for those saved by grace (James 2:17, Romans 12:2). Because a good tree bears good fruit (Matthew 7:17-18), people justified by grace through faith act on that faith and will change and grow in Christ (2 Peter 3:18, James 1:22, 2 Corinthians 3:18, 5:17, Ephesians 4:22-24).

• The Church. We teach that we are a part of one true Church (Ephesians 4:4-6, Romans 12:5) made up of all who believe in Christ as Lord. We extend the hand of fellowship to all members of this universal Christian Church (Romans 15:7). God admonishes His people to assemble together regularly for worship, for participation in ordinances, for edification through the Scriptures and for mutual encouragement and accountability (Hebrews 10:25).

• Prayer. We are a people of prayer. We teach that God answers prayer and we encourage everyone to grow in prayer (Matthew 21:22; Mark 11:24; James 5:16, Matthew 18:18-20).

• Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We teach that Jesus instituted baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We teach that God truly acts in these sacraments and we are commanded to apply them to our lives (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

• Return of Christ. Jesus will come again to the earth – personally, visibly and bodily – to consummate history and the eternal plan of God (Revelation 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; John 14:3). We encourage a sense of readiness and a zeal for the return of Christ, but leave beliefs on the final events and their exact sequence up to the individual believer (1 Corinthians 15:58).

• Eternity. At physical death the believer enters immediately into eternal, conscious fellowship with the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting glory and blessing (2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:22-23; Luke 23:43). At physical death the unbeliever enters immediately into eternal, conscious separation from the Lord and awaits the resurrection of his body to everlasting judgment and condemnation (Luke 16:19-31; Revelation 20:13).

• Kingdom Expansion. The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to disciple men of every nation. The fulfillment of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambitions be subordinated to a total commitment to Jesus Christ and expanding His kingdom (Matthew 28:18-20; 9:37-38; Acts 1:8).

• Marriage. We teach that a full sexual relationship belongs within the boundaries of a publicly committed marriage between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:31, Exodus 20:14, Romans 1:26-28).

• Sanctity of Life. We teach the sanctity and defense of all human life including the unborn (Deuteronomy 30:19, Jeremiah 1:4-5, Psalms 139:13-14).

• Peacemaking. We teach that we are to be proactive in peacemaking (Ephesians 2:14, Matthew 5:9). We teach that Christians are to work actively to break down the barriers that divide people; especially those of race, economics, and gender (Acts 10:34-35, Galatians 3:28). We do not believe that these distinctions will matter in heaven and teach that the church on earth should begin to mirror this eventual reality (Matthew 6:10).
