(Waking Up Black America: Chicago Author Mr. Emmanuel Barbee)

My book is just the beginning finding qualified people to help me start and operate my Christian organization is the biggest challenge for me. How did Harriet Tubman free 1,000 slaves? She was concern about our people left behind in bondage she believed in helping as many people as she could to give them freedom. What happened when our grandparents decided to boycotted public transportation in the south? It helped end Jim Crow in America. I created the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement back in 1991to connect with other like minded individuals from across the United States and around the globe to hold online conferences to discuss new ideas about improving our inner cities in America and in African nations around the globe.

I laid out my plan on how GRCAM would improve Urban America through the arts, team building, building cooperative alliances beyond the black community, and strategic decision making for the purpose of turning my ideas into a reality. I am a professional blogger, blogtalkradio host, an upcoming social entrepreneur. Since 2001, over 4,000 people has been killed in Chicago alone as a result Chicago is now the murder capital in America.

The only thing which is preventing me from starting my Christian organization the Grass Roots Community Activist Institute is the lack of manpower and the capital. This is why I turned to social media to get my message out to the public through my Youtube videos, my Social Groups, my Blog Postings, my Blogtalkradio show, and now my revised book “The Solution For Black America: Reclaiming, Rebuilding, And Restoring The Urban Ghettos In America” second edition. In my book I offer a 21st century strategy about what my organization will do to help end urban violence while improving our inner cities in America starting in Chicago.

I wrote my story for three reasons: one reason is to raise awareness about the genocide which is taken place within our inner cities in America. Another reason why I wrote my story is to promote my virtual Christian organization the Grass Roots Community Activist Movement. GRCAM is a Christian socialist organization. A Christian socialist is a form of socialism based on the teachings of Jesus. Many Christian socialists believe that capitalism is idolatrous and rooted in greed, social inequality, and institutionalized racism which most Christian denominations consider a mortal sin. We will focus on what we stand for: love, compassion, social justice, and liberation theology.

Jesus commanded us to be a witness to others not just for us to read his word, but to activate social change in the world according to Luke4:18-19. We will be committed to the healing ministry of Jesus by showing compassion to inner city youth and their families which will promote dignity to the people and community we will serve. GRCAM is based on three main components a social service component, spiritual component, and a political component. Our programs and services will include: Tutoring/Mentoring, Music, Film Making, Performing Arts, Journalism, Sports, Community Resources, GED Preparation, Information Technology, Entrepreneurship Training, and Life Skills as mentioned in my revised book.

We will also offer private employment to our clients and members based on our budget and sponsorship. In time we will offer a second chance program for ex-offenders, former gang members, and homeless individuals. Our primary focus is on strengthening single black families while ending urban violence in our inner cities in America. Our goal is to change the mindset of at risk youth and change negative behavior, provide basic resources needed to help at risk youth become successful citizens in our society.

GRCAM will become a nonprofit and also a for profit service based business. Our mission is to end urban violence, poverty, structural inequality, institutionalized racism, and police brutality within the communities and cities we will serve if given a chance. Our focus is on providing goods and services to the low income African American community and working directly with single black mothers, single black fathers, and low income two parent families within the communities and cities we will serve.

Finally, I wrote my story in order to generate capital/seed money so that I can generate enough capital to hire qualified individuals to assist me in the daily operation of my business. I want to make Chicago a model first before we expand to 10 other cities within 10 states. Once we’re established in America I plan on having African Immigrants in America to assist me in setting up chapters in 10 countries in Africa. Our Community Initiatives will consist of the following:

*Education & Technology

We will launch a science campaign designed to expose inner city youth to opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, and Math as part of our annual Black History Month celebration. Our primary focus is on strengthening our students reading, writing, math, and science skills. Recognizing that our future as a society depends on the educated youth of tomorrow, we will host essay contests and other programs and activities that foster a desire to learn from a young age.

*Arts & Culture

We will offer Arts and cultural activities which will add vibrance to our urban communities. We believe it’s important to offer arts and cultural programs to the health and vitality of the communities we will serve. Local music and movie festivals, as well as theater productions and other artistic pursuits, enhance our understanding of other cultures and contribute to our education in fun and interactive ways. The arts help bring us together.

*Health & Safety

GRCAM staff and members will be dedicated to supporting health and safety within our communities where we live and work. GRCAM will raise awareness about ending the genocide in our inner cities in America.

*Neighborhood Grants

In time we will create our own charitable outreach programs, for our students and members as well as help fund our health programs, our social services programs and our after-school programs through our for profit business.
We will use our resources for the benefit for our clients/members preserve and protect our environment, and make sure that all our children receive quality education and quality health care. My online conferences is intended to promote a civil discourse on the challenges facing Black America and the African continent as well as the means to resolve them. I’m still looking for like minded progressive African Americans to work with me in turning my ideas into a reality. I also want to build an alliance with African Immigrants, Afro-Brazilians, Afro-Caribbean, Non-black sympathizers as well as all Christian denominations, moderate Muslims, and secular people who are interested in joining this new movement in Urban America.

If everyone on my friends list and people in my social groups would just read my story or share my book information with their family, friends, places of worship, and at their local community centers this could help speed up the process so that I can generate enough capital from my book sell to hire qualified people to assist me with the daily operations of my organization. I can’t do everything I’m just one black man with a plan. My organization is open to all law abiding citizens, all racial groups, and undiscovered artist. This is my contribution back to my community and throughout the African Diaspora.
